Which one should you try?
Start with TRELLIS.2 when you want to explore detailed geometry and physically based materials in a GLB workflow. Start with InstantMesh when you need an OBJ output or want to evaluate a mesh reconstruction workflow.
Neither choice guarantees a usable asset for every image. Thin structures, hidden surfaces, transparency, and complicated silhouettes need close inspection in either result.
How to make a useful comparison
- Use the same source image and keep a record of the model settings.
- Record queue time separately from processing time.
- Download both results and inspect them using similar lighting and camera angles.
- Compare the silhouette, unseen sides, connected geometry, textures, and triangle count.
- Test both in the destination tool and record any cleanup they require.
Do not infer that one model is faster from a single public-demo run: shared GPU load and quota can change the wait. Keep a failed attempt in your notes as well as successful results.
